Only the BEST horses are accepted for a breeding license. If a foal is born from two registry-licensed Shires, it is automatically accepted as Class A Shire. However, registry-licensed horses and their foals will not receive any special treatment in shows, etc. If your horse is rejected for a breeding license for whatever reason, don't whine or pout. You can try only twice per horse, but will be disqualified from ever trying again with any horse if you have artificially altered your horse. Usually only Class A horses earn licenses but don't be discouraged! ANY class may apply and if your horse earns a license, he/she will automatically be promoted to Class A. Judges do make mistakes sometimes, and this is how they rectify their miscall.
The Shire Registry will hold a special show every month to issue Breeding Licenses to horses 6 years old and above, and to place three-year-olds in their classes.
If your horse doesn't have a license, it can still breed of course! Having a license is just a mark of a truly exemplary horse, and highly desirable. Non-licensed horses may produce a license-worthy horse, you never know!
